TURN UP! @ LEIGH SAWMILL CAFE
Aug 18 @ 8:00 pm

TARANAKI’S SONS OF MISCHIEF & REVELRY!

Exponents of womble rock and funky hat folk, The Slacks will be venturing north to join forces with Auckland’s Grandfathers of ukulele funk, The Nukes.
Family friendly cabaret style show… a set each along with a combined finale… Nuke dem Slacks and Slacks for our Ukes!

Nukes Special announcement
Due to reasons many and varied, Snapper has chosen to step down in his role as Banjolele player, gravelly-voiced singer and raconteur of the band.

The Nukes have created a great legacy of original ukulele music and memorable shows, and though sad at this decision, Ben and Dave will look to create a new and potentially exciting chapter to add to this legacy. We hope that fans will embrace these changes.

So take this chance to see the 3 in one of their last concerts together!

August Club Night – Pete and the Skiffy Rivets @ Whangateau Hall
Aug 27 @ 6:45 pm

Triple layer vocals and several stringy thingies are vigorously put to use by Pete and the Skiffy Rivets as they weave musical tales borrowed from bluegrass, folk, old timey, swing, and wherever. They are amusing and serious, happy and sad, tales of trains, radios, chains, white horses, elbow room, altitude, flowers, paintbrushes, daughters, lovers, bosses, memories, thunder storms, neon signs, too much gravy, too much coffee, dreams of wide open spaces and hearts we never won. The group is assembled from Holly Carrington, Sue Tearne and Pete Parnham on vocals, with Pete and Steve Gerrish animating the stringy thingies. All sung, plucked and strummed purely for your listening pleasure. Check out www.skiffyrivetsmusic.com and the Elbow Room CD.

Standard folk club evening.  Doors open at 6:45pm.  E-mail jenine@torkington.com for a floor spot.  $10.00

HOT KNIVES EP RELEASE TOUR @ Leigh Sawmill Cafe
Sep 21 @ 9:30 pm

Hot Knives at the Sawmill Cafe

Hot Knives is the brain child of Warkworth’s musician Bobandii, who after moving to Auckland was approached by Apple Music to create the biggest music single possible. It was here that all five band members came together to create the electric “Nazarite“, which went on to have international success.

Although the flame had been sparked by one individual, the band quickly grew into it’s own monster, and as the band continued to play together, they started to turn the heads of other people in the industry. Hot Knives had been born.

The self titled EP is the very first official release by the band, and encompasses the original intention of the Nazarite track in 4 brand new songs.

THE JOHNNYS with support from The Bads @ Leigh Sawmill Cafe
Sep 30 @ 5:30 pm

Australian cowpunk legends The Johnnys are making their long-awaited return to Aotearoa this September for their first national tour in twenty eight years.

With a fistful of foot-stomping tunes tucked under their belts, the rough riding band struck gold with their 1986 album Highlights Of A Dangerous Life spurring numerous chart hits in New Zealand and Australia, and party-starting sets at legendary local venues The Gluepot and Warners. The tour is being held in tribute to their ill bandmate, guitarist Spencer P. Jones (also of Beasts of Bourbon), who sadly won’t be crossing the ditch to join the trio of Graham HoodSlim Doherty and Billy Pommer Jr.

THE BADS are sawmill favourites, with their effortlessly cool poppin’ rockin’ country tunes – the perfect support act for this gig!
